About Simbelle

  • A nonprofit production company supporting narrative films with female protagonists, made by women and underrepresented filmmakers. We work alongside our filmmakers, advocacy partners, and cultural institutions from development through distribution, and beyond.

  • Many of the films we support fall outside traditional financing models. A nonprofit structure allows us to reinvest in artists, projects, and long term cultural impact.

  • Narrative feature films with female protagonists, led by filmmakers with a strong sense of authorship and social resonance.

  • We combine production, artist support, and impact work under one structure, allowing supported films to sustain future projects and initiatives.

  • Two things, together. The story is told through a woman's perspective. The creative authorship, including director and often writer and producer, is led by women.

  • Simbelle is named for the founder’s daughters.

The Work

  • All three, depending on the project. Some films begin with us in development. Others come to us during financing, post production, or release planning.

  • We support filmmakers with a distinct voice whose work is formally rigorous and socially resonant. Most projects come to us through long term relationships and trust.

  • Not at this time.

  • Yes, selectively, for projects we support creatively and financially.

  • Our current slate is focused on feature films. Before You, an earlier short, remains part of our body of work.

Impact

  • We align our social impact with the experiences women carry that culture hasn't built a vocabulary around. The films we support give those experiences shape and language. Our impact work extends those conversations through partnerships, screenings, and public engagement.

  • A film is not finished at release. Impact distribution extends its life through screenings, partnerships, educational outreach, and community dialogue.

  • Marketing drives awareness around a release. Impact distribution sustains engagement after release.

  • Partners are selected film by film based on the themes of the work. Past collaborators include Planned Parenthood, Caring Across Generations, and The Jed Foundation.

  • These organizations bring expertise, community relationships, and real world context that deepen the work beyond the screen.

Community

  • Screenings, panels, dinners, and conversations, often in partnership with aligned organizations and festivals.

  • Conversation is part of the work. Our events bring filmmakers, audiences, and organizations together around the ideas films raise.

  • We build long term relationships with organizations whose missions align with our own.

  • Some are public, while others are festival or partner based. Announcements are shared through our newsletter, Instagram and collaborators.
